EU Says Armenia Is Drawing Closer to Europe After Election Outcome
“We deeply value our partnership with a democratic Armenia that is drawing ever closer to Europe. Armenia can count on us,” she said in a post on the social media platform X.
She also congratulated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who declared victory early Monday while vote counting was still underway nationwide. “The spirit of the Velvet Revolution you led in 2018 is alive and well,” von der Leyen added.
According to preliminary results released by Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission after ballots from all 2,005 polling stations were counted, Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party secured 49.81% of the vote, giving it a parliamentary majority, state media reported.
