EU Lawmakers Urge Suspension of Israel Cooperation Agreement
Lawmakers from the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) gathered inside the European Parliament in Brussels, holding signs reading “Suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement Now!” while urging EU institutions to take stronger action regarding developments in the Middle East.
In a statement issued alongside the demonstration, the group said the European Council “must suspend the EU-Israel association agreement!”
The group also shared an image of the protest on the social media platform X, outlining additional demands.
“Immediate sanctions on violent settlers in the West Bank. The creation of a Palestinian State must be the EU’s unwavering priority, starting with (the) reconstruction of Gaza. Israel must stop military operations in Lebanon,” the post said.
The EU-Israel Association Agreement, which has been in effect since 2000, provides the framework for political dialogue, trade relations, and broader cooperation between the two sides.
The debate over the agreement has intensified within the bloc amid ongoing conflict in Gaza and rising tensions in the West Bank and Lebanon, with critics questioning continued preferential relations with Israel.
