China Schedules Military Talks with EU, NATO Amid Regional Strains
The EU-China security and defense consultations are planned for next Tuesday, as stated by reports, with discussions between NATO representatives and officials from the Office for International Military Cooperation of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) also expected to take place that same week.
No official confirmation has been issued by either side regarding the upcoming talks.
These planned discussions come in the wake of the Middle East crisis triggered by the joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which Tehran claims killed around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top security chief Ali Larijani.
In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes across the region and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil transit route carrying approximately 20 million barrels per day and about 20% of the world’s liquefied natural gas trade, causing significant disruptions to global energy markets.
