EU Reveals Aiding Conflict-Hit Communities in DR Congo
According to a statement from the Delegation of the EU in Congo, the funds will deliver urgent humanitarian relief to thousands of people facing dire conditions due to escalating conflict and growing needs in the region.
The ongoing clashes, particularly in Uvira, Fizi, and Kalehe, have forced around 500,000 individuals to flee their homes. Of these, more than 90,000 have crossed into neighboring Burundi, with the numbers continuing to rise daily, the EU noted.
“This emergency response project will be implemented until the end of June 2026 and will benefit internally displaced populations in the hardest-hit areas of Uvira, Fizi and Kalehe,” the statement explained.
The donation will reinforce partner organizations’ efforts, focusing on cash support, protection measures, and essential services such as water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Violence in eastern Congo has triggered widespread displacement in South Kivu, with thousands escaping ongoing hostilities amid dwindling local resources.
At the center of the turmoil is the M23 rebel movement, which has seized control of large areas, including the provincial capitals of Goma and Bukavu, captured earlier in 2025.
