France to ban imports of fruits with EU-prohibited pesticides
In a post on social media platform X, Lecornu stated: "A decree will be issued in the coming days, at the initiative of the Minister of Agriculture Annie Genevard to suspend the importation of products containing residues of substances banned in Europe: mancozeb, glufosinate, thiophanate-methyl, and carbendazim."
The ban will apply to fruits such as avocados, mangoes, guavas, citrus fruits, grapes, and apples imported from South America and other regions. Lecornu added that these products "will no longer be allowed to enter the country."
He also said that a specialized team will carry out stricter inspections to ensure that imported products comply with French health standards. The prime minister described the measure as "a first step" to safeguard consumers and the domestic agricultural sector, address "unfair competition," and uphold "justice and fairness for our farmers."
