EU Criticizes Israel for Blocking Red Cross Access
"Denying our partner @ICRC_ilot access to Palestinian prisoners – who face dire conditions – violates humanitarian principles," Hadja Lahbib stated on the US social media platform X.
She emphasized the EU's ongoing dedication to assisting humanitarian organizations that operate "independently, neutrally, and impartially."
On October 29, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz declared that visits to thousands of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli facilities would be prohibited.
Palestinians released from Israeli custody previously displayed evidence of abuse, malnutrition, and severe injuries resulting from torture during their detention.
Currently, more than 10,000 Palestinians, including women and children, remain imprisoned in Israel under harsh conditions, including torture, starvation, and denial of medical care.
According to Palestinian and Israeli human rights groups, these circumstances have caused the deaths of multiple detainees.
The initial stage of the ceasefire agreement involves the liberation of Israeli hostages in return for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
The deal also plans for Gaza's reconstruction and the creation of a new governing framework excluding Hamas.
